Dark circles/ puffy eyes

The skin surrounding our eyes and our eyelids are the thinnest skin in our body. As such, they are prone to showing signs and symptoms of inflammation, weathering and aging first. Here are my top 5 tips to achieve healthier, younger looking skin around the eyes

1) Use a potent anti-oxidant: Chronic low grade inflammation around eyes eventually lead to puffiness, and dyscromia (dark circles). Treating these are only effective if we also introduce a mechanism to prevent recurrence. By using natural anti-oxidant complexes, our goal is to reduce inflammation and the onset of swelling and dark discoloration. Elavo Radiant Eyes offers powerful antioxidants that result in best results if used diligently every day.

2) Utilize vitamin-A derivatives: Retinol (over the counter) and tretinoin (prescription) products work on the top layer of the skin (epidermis). They are indispensable tools that can improve the texture of the skin, and postpone onset of fine lines and wrinkles.

3) Consider getting chemical peels: Once the pigment settles in the skin, it takes a very long time to be shed off. By getting one or two chemical peels or microdermabrasion, you can get instant relief the dark spots. Most of the time I add azelaic acid containing medicines (prescription) after the chemical peel for further benefit

4) Apply light diffusing minerals: Naturally occurring metal particles like zinc and titanium not only work as a sunscreen, but also a natural concealer but diffusing light rays and disrupting the shadow effect that makes the under eye area look so dark. Elavo Radiant Eyes is a combination cream that has these naturally occurring metals as well as antioxidants.

5) Don’t laugh! But for eyes that are very puffy using medicines that work on the vasculature (such as phenylephrine; present in preparation H hemorrhoid creams) can work wonders. I recommend using it sparingly 3 times a week. Make sure the preparation you purchase does not have steroids like hydrocortisone).
